As the Esports industry grows, players’ salaries inflate along with it; however the less common topic is the salaries of individuals working in the industry itself. Known LPL Caster “Remember” gives us a clearer picture, stating that LPL Casters make about 200,000 yuan ($28,791 USD) annually.

Remember went from a BA in Finance to team manager in an LMS team to a Caster in the LMS. Before long his career took him to the desk of LPL where he continued to cast and has solidified a place as one of the voices of the LPL.

On a livestream when a viewer asks how much he makes from casting the LPL, he said “I make under 500,000 yuan, around 200,000 yuan a year”. He continues to say that he doesn’t get any sponsors so sponsor fee is out of the question. On the bright side there are streaming contracts for casters this year which will bump up the salary a bit but due to the decrease of stadium sizes causing a decrease in salary it balances out.

Remember compares being a streamer and a caster in which streaming would net him a healthier income. When a viewer comments “You can use your fame to earn more” he replies saying that you must first achieve fame before you can do that and it isn’t easy to do, claiming he is only a small time caster.  

Esports is a fairly new industry and while the top end of the hierarchy can be financially rewarding, there are many out there struggling to make ends meet. To reach a stable and consistent balance within this new environment will still take time and thankfully we have people like Remember to shine a light to spread awareness that would hopefully benefit the scene in the long-run.
