It was after a quick series against G2 that IG came out victorious. Not only was this series quick, but one game 3 gave us one of the most highlight-reel materials from TheShy on Aatrox. Here is what IG had to say after their victory.
Q: (For TheShy) The final 3 toplaners besides yourself is sOAZ, Licorice and Bwipo, which of those 3 do you respect the most and who do you want to face?
TheShy: There’s no one in particular I would like to meet, but since I lost to FNC before I definitely would like to meet FNC again.
Q: What is the reasoning behind side selection because it is quite beneficial to have counterpicks on the side lanes so I was surprised you picked only blue side.
Coach Kim: There are multiple reasons but the main reason is we get first pick on blue side and we have more to play within the ban phase.
Q: (For RooKie) How was your matchup against Perkz and are you more excited to play against Caps or Jensen?
RooKie: I think Perkz was a good player but throughout the games, it felt like I was the better player overall. I haven’t played against Jensen but I lost to caps, so I want to meet Fnatic in the finals and prove that we can win and come out as world champions.
Q: (For RooKie) How important is it for you to win this tournament here in Korea?
RooKie: Back in 2014 when I was with KT I didn’t make Worlds, I just want to prove and show that I can pull this off on IG.
Q: (For Ning) Cloud 9 vs Fnatic who do you think will win? Whoever you play against in the Final will you think it will be as easy as today? Will It be a 3-0?
Ning: I think it’s 50/50 there is no obvious favorite. I think it will not be as easy as today and in fact will be a tough match whoever we face.
Q: (For RooKie) since IG lost to RNG in the LPL, how do you see G2 vs RNG since you won so easily today?
RooKie: RNG is definitely a very strong team and G2 is strong as well. The reason RNG lost was mainly because of the meta changes and they didn’t adapt and prepare enough coming into Worlds as opposed to G2 who adapted more quickly.
Q: (For JackeyLove) This year has been all about China and the LPL whether it’s at MSI, Asian Games, Rift Rivals and Uzi has gotten a lot of credit. But he is out and he is in so do you feel like you will get a lot of respect from this Tournament and do you feel like you have a lot of weight to carry since you have to win this to win everything for China.
JackeyLove: I feel like this is my best shot, this is definitely the only time that I have made it this far into Worlds. I feel like Uzi deserves all the appreciation and the credit and he is still the best player despite losing in the Quarterfinal. I’m happy that I’m still in the tournament but when I get back to the LPL Uzi will continue to shit on me.
Q: (For the Coach) how important is it for the team to finish the series so fast today?
Coach Kim: It was definitely important for us to finish the matches quickly because we didn’t have to show the red side drafts and didn’t have to pull out any other things we had in store.
Q: (For RooKie) Because Perkz is a player that has been the center of a lot of Chinese fans’ attention, how do you rate him? How do you feel about him in lane?
RooKie: He played very well in Quarterfinals and beat RNG. I researched his champion pool and how to play against him. Although you could not see him play at his potential today I felt like I am stronger than him and it showed. In the end, we won rather easily
Q: (To Duke) What is the difference between this Worlds and the one in 2016?
Duke: I was very confident 2 years ago, this time I’m not as confident. I am playing as someone learning
Q: (ToJackeyLove) In game you were being focused on the most. How did you feel and did your hands go numb today? (JackeyLove said his hands went numb in the Quarterfinals vs KT after getting a Quadrakill and called for a pause but the ref wouldn't allow it)
JackeyLove: Game 3 was ok, it wasn’t as bad as game 2. If we won game 2, so it’s nothing special. Today was ok, my hands did not go numb.
Q: (To Baolan) When you flashed in midlane to block Jhin ult for RooKie, was that natural reaction?
Baolan: RooKie told me to block it for him, but I couldn’t walk there in time so I flashed. So I guess it was instinct
Q: (To JackeyLove) In the promotion video you said you wanted to show the World that the LPL has another great ADC, did your performance today achieve that?
JackeyLove: Today’s games didn’t show that, we’ll see in the Finals.
Q: (To The Coach) In the last game Lucian was opened and you played him pretty well in the first game, why’d you decide to go with Kai’sa?
Coach Kim: Picking an ADC is dependent on whether you need ganks or resources, in this game we didn’t need much help so we decided on Kai’sa.
Q: (For RooKie) TheShy said in an interview that he doesn’t think any of the remaining toplaners can beat him, so do you think any of the remaining midlaners can beat you? Does IG WXZ being here today give you extra pressure?
RooKie: TheShy and I both have the similar lane pressure playstyle. Looking at the only laning phase I don’t think there are any solo laners that can match us. But outside of laning there are quite a few outstanding midlaners. For Example FNC Caps and a teamfighting midlaner. I believe we need to improve our team mentality.
Q: (To RooKie) You once said in an interview that you dreamed of IG winning the tournament, now you only have 1 more step until that dream comes true. So which team do you look forward to playing against more and what do you want to say to them?
RooKie: I don’t know when I said that but a lot of fans sent me that picture, looking back it is kind of stupid. Even though we are in the Finals, we don’t know who the opponent will be and C9 and FNC are both strong opponents. We want to face FNC more because we lost to them pretty badly in Groups so we want revenge. Even though we have 1 more step however I feel like it’s easy for us to make mistakes during the most crucial times. So if we fix that we will have a chance, and will maybe win.
Q: (To TheShy) You had 2 very crucial teamfights in game 3, how did that play out and what was the team communication like?
TheShy: The team actually wanted to retreat but I didn’t want to. And the results were pretty good for us
Q: (To The Coach) So Finals are next for you, what kind of preparations will the players be doing?
Coach Kim: This is a matter for the manager and 2 other coaches to decide on, we will discuss it when we get back.
